How do recommended, maximum, and custom compression differ?
Recommended compression balances quality and file size as a default. Maximum compression focuses on reducing size more, so quality loss can be more visible. Custom mode lets you set the quality value directly for the compression level you want.
How do I set a custom quality?
Selecting custom mode shows a quality slider. A higher value keeps quality closer to the original but produces a larger file, while a lower value reduces size more but increases visible quality loss.
How do the image size options differ?
Keeping the original size leaves the width and height unchanged. The 1920px and 1280px options scale down the longer edge to that size while preserving the aspect ratio. The 50% option halves both the original width and height.
Does reducing the resolution also reduce the file size?
Generally yes. Fewer pixels usually gives a larger size reduction than lowering only the compression quality, although the image may look less sharp when enlarged.
What does keeping transparency do?
It preserves the transparent areas of the original image. This is useful for logos, icons, and QR codes in output formats that support transparency.
What happens when I convert to a white background?
The transparent areas of the original image are filled with white. This is suitable when you do not need a transparent background or the output environment does not support transparency.
Which image formats are supported?
PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP, and AVIF images are accepted as input. GIF files are not supported.
Can PNG images be compressed too?
Yes. PNG images are optimized and can be reduced substantially. If the compressed result would be larger than the original, the original is kept and shown as "already optimized".
Does compression always reduce the file size?
In most cases it does, but if the original is already well compressed or very small, the reduction can be small. If the compressed result is larger, the original is kept, so the result never grows.
Is it okay to compress images with QR codes or text?
It is possible, but very strong compression or heavy downscaling can lower QR code recognition and small text sharpness. For such images, use recommended compression and check the result.
Where can I see the compression result?
Each file entry shows the compressed file size and the reduction ratio versus the original. If you changed the image size, the resulting resolution is shown as well.
Are the original images changed?
No. The originals stay unchanged, and new compressed image files are created.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your images and compression results are never transmitted to a server.
